High School?!!!

See this young lady? She and time are breaking my heart. In a few months, she will be fifteen. In a few days, it will be official... I will be the mom of a high school student. I am excited. I am scared to death. I am happy. I am sad. I am in need of some serious prayer. When I think that in just four short years... well, let's not even go there just yet, what do you say?

I was reading my Bible this morning, reading also out of a devotional magazine, when this prayer popped off the page at me:

"Heavenly Father, when we are raising and enjoying our children it is easy to forget that we received them on loan. Help us let go and let them embrace adulthood."

Now, this isn't quite my prayer, yet. Well the second part of it isn't, anyway. However, I do forget that being a mom is an "honor" sometimes and I do take for granted many moments in motherhood. So, as I approach the beginning of a new school year, with a 9Th and 7Th grader, I pray that I do find joy in all their busyness. I am so BLESSED the Lord saw fit for me to have the honor of being called "mom," by two of His children. May I never take my moments with them for granted.

"He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus... And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ..."
Philippians 1:6, 9-10

Oh my goodness, Mich, mine is only about to be 11 and I'm already thinking of ways I can convince her to stay home and go to the nearest college possible. Haha! I remember being that age and thinking I was SO grown-up.....and now that I'm a Mom, 15 seems so young! It seems like there ought to be some rule where they have to live at home until they're at least 25. LOL!

I feel your pain with one going to college, one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary!

Your daughter is beautiful!

Ah... yes.. highschool. I am understanding your thoughts! I am having a hard enough time realizing how old my two are so I can definitely feel what you are saying. What a wonderful promise that the Lord gave you in your devotions. He is so good to guide us through these new chapters in our lives.

My little girl had her 9th birthday yesterday. At the close of the evening (her tucking in time) she was crying. When I asked her regarding her tears, she told me that time was going by too fast. That she didn't want to grow up. Then she asked me if she had to get married. If she couldn't just live with me forever.

Broke. My. Heart.

I didn't tell her to "just wait until you get my age!" Time really does move swiftly by, and as our children begin to sprout their wings and move forward, it can be a terrible tear on a mother's heart.

You and your daughter have a strong bond... I can tell! Enjoy these years.

He will complete the good work He started in us - what a faith-standing-on statement! I remember as I grew closer to the Father, about the time my second son was born who was an answer to a prayer - I gave my son to Him, saying, "He is yours first" - and each one after - and the first born, too. That helps keeps EVERYTHING in perspective, doesn't it. I hope high school is growing comfortable for your daughter. My oldest son said that Freshman year everybody changed (not for the better) and their sophomore they all changed back. I think in that transition, that kind of burden of new challenges, kids don't always respond with grace - kind of like those first days of motherhood with all those new challenges and the fear - and then I found my feet and my grace resurfaced. Praying for YOU and your kiddos - praying for peace in the upheaval!
