I am not "addicted" to my phone, like some people I know. (Hint. Hint. SISTER!) In fact my family is always fussing about me not answering when they call. I am just not one that stays on it nonstop. An occasional text and call is all I need...
Or at least that is what I thought.
Until yesterday.
My phone was left in my jeans and decided to take a bath in the washing machine. Kev heard it swishing around, so it wasn't in there very long, but...
"Ruby" is drying out in a bag of rice as we speak.
And all of a sudden I miss her horribly. I survived all my high school and college days, living in big cities, traveling all over the world without a cell phone and now I am nervous about driving around town without one? Not even sure I remember how to use a payphone if I needed to. Do we still have payphones? Haven't even noticed.
I feel cut off from the family. I find myself wondering "what if?" someone was trying to get me. What if it was important? What if I just missed that "million dollar" call?
How did our world become so dependent on a cellphone? Why does it feel we are missing an appendage when we lose or break them? Why do I feel so out of touch all of a sudden?
Ruby,
I guess we will have to wait a few days to see if you manage to survive you bath coma.
I hope you do, because I just learned how you really work.
Just took me two years, but our relationship was growing.
I am not really ready to move on...
I will miss you if your time has come to an end.
Mich
Friends, have any advice? Is there any hope for Ruby? If not, do you have any suggestions for a replacement. It needs to be easy to use. I am NOT an electronic person. In the meantime, I am not sure what I will do...
Probably just confiscate my daughter's phone. :)
Blessings!

I honestly don't think there is any hope for Ruby....so sad.
I have a Motorola Droid and absolutely love it. It is super user friendly.....
LOL that you call her Ruby :D I finally just got an iphone after never having anything more than the cheapest phone they offer! I love it! It's so easy to use and so convenient. I'm not addicted either, but it's just so handy to have when I'm waiting in the car line at school or at dance. I would highly recommend one! My hubby has a droid and his doesn't work near as well as my iphone. It just doesn't work as smoothly as mine.
Hope Ruby survives! I've heard the rice has worked well for other people! Good luck! If not, get yourself an iphone! :)
I am addicted to my phone, but not to talkin really. For someone who does better NOT talking on the phone the phones of today are great :) I love texting and that I can check facebook, and most of all when Jeremiah was in ICU that I can get word to prayer warriors about what was goin on with J, all thanks to the blessing of my phone! :)
Blessings,
Tami

I'm with you, I know I drove two and a half hours to and from college without a cell phone, and I can't imagine going across town without it now. I hope Ruby survives.
Oh no. Actress' ipod took a bath too and unfortunetly we didn't know about the rice bag. I have heard it work for several people...so I hope it works for you.
I am not a phone addict either, but it sure is nice to have.
I "washed" mine, tried the bag of rice to no avail. I had to get another one.
I love my cell, even thought I don't use it for everything like other people. Mine is a simple phone, texting is difficult when you don't have a texting phone. So that is minimel.
I love that when I go on a trip, I can get help and I am not left at the side of the road with six children.
Awww! I hope Ruby survives! My daughter dropped her cell phone in the toilet last summer. It survived after much blow drying and many days laying vulnerable and naked in front of fans. But it really never worked as well as it did before. She eventually just went and got another one.
I hope Ruby is OK... but I am thinking she not. I love my cell phone, too... it is hard to believe we used to live quite nicely without them!
